World Health Day Theme: Support Nurses and Midwives
7th April is observed as the World Health Day under the
sponsorship of the WHO (World Health Organization). In 1948, the WHO organized
the first-ever World Health Assembly declared 7th April as World Health Day
with effect from 1950.
Over the past 50 years, the WHO has been celebrating World
Health Day with a specific theme focusing on different health issues including-
maternal and child care, mental health, and climate change.
World Health Day 2020 Theme
Witnessing 1, 347, 566 (as on 7th April 2020) active cases
of Coronavirus and commendable contribution of 28 million nurses all around the
globe, the WHO dedicated the World Health Day 2020 theme to the nurses and
midwives working on the forefront. They continue to put their health & life
at risk to save others. To this, the WHO honored the nurses & midwives by
setting them the role model of this year’s theme.
As per research by the WHO, in the Western Pacific Region,
95% of the health workers are women. Out of this, 51% of the nurses are below
the age of 35.
Dr. Takeshi Kasai (WHO Regional Director for the Western
Pacific) says-
“Nurses are the unsung heroes of the COVID-19 response. The invaluable role they have played is testimony of their sacrifice, courage, and commitment to a healthier and safer world”
The Slogan of World Health Day 2020 is- Support Nurses and
Midwives
From the past a few months, the nurses and midwives have
been delivering careful treatment, maternal & child health services,
emergency responses, and collecting vital data for further clinical research.
